Lexus introduced the world to the concept of a luxury crossover during the late 1990s, and has remained a top player in the segment ever since. For 2016, it enters its fourth generation ready to divide opinions.
Gentle curves and an ovoid profile give way to origami creases and abrupt angles on the new RX. The signature Lexus “spindle grille” dominates the front end – it’s the largest incarnation of it yet. The rear-end is equally as curious; blacked out rear pillars give the illusion of a floating roof, a similar trick featured on the Nissan Murano. Like it or not, the new RX is anything but drab.
Under the edgy sheetmetal is a chassis that’s been stretched in length, width, and wheelbase to provide a more spacious cabin. The interior is less dramatic than the exterior, but the change is no less noticeable. It’s much improved with better outward visibility and higher-quality materials. Laser-etched wood trim, and two new interior colour schemes add a premium feel, as does the available and massive 12.3-inch centre infotainment display. Other niceties on offer include power reclining and heated rear seats, a rear-seat entertainment system with dual 11.6-inch screens, a 360-degree parking camera and a plus-sized panoramic sunroof.
The RX 350 is powered by Lexus’ standard-issue and ultra-smooth 3.5-litre V6 engine. It produces 295 hp, up from 270 hp; an eight-speed automatic is now standard on all gas-powered RXs. The RX 450h returns for 2016 using the same powertrain configuration with a gasoline engine powering the front wheels and an electric motor driving the rear wheels. Total power for the system is up slightly from 295 hp to 308 hp.
Lexus has also put greater effort into the F Sport trim, available on both the RX 350 and 450h. Adaptive dampers and active anti-roll bars make for a sportier ride that doesn’t compromise on comfort, but there are no additional power gains. F Sports also receive an even bolder styling, 20-inch wheels, and a nifty reconfigurable instrument cluster inspired by the LFA supercar.
The RX is available in RX 350 and RX 450h models.

Issue:
This recall is for certain block heater kits installed on certain vehicles or sold as accessories at Toyota or Lexus dealerships.
On certain vehicles, the engine block heater cable may not have enough heat protection and could be damaged by high temperatures. If this happens, the cable could short circuit while plugged in, and cause the wiring to overheat or melt.

Safety Risk:
Engine block heater wiring that overheats or melts could create the risk of a fire.
Corrective Actions:
Toyota recommends that you should stop using the engine block heater immediately. Toyota will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to disable the engine block heater. For some vehicles, the corrective actions for this recall are under development. For others, a new engine block heater cannot be installed, and the owner will receive a refund of the purchase price of the engine block heater.

On certain vehicles, the airbag system pressure sensors and/or acceleration sensors used to detect vehicle impact may contain manufacturing defects. On certain vehicles, the electrical power cords of some dealer installed block heaters may have been improperly manufactured, causing the wires to contact each other, resulting in a short circuit. A short circuit could lead to a fire which would increase the risk of injury and/or damage to property. Correction: For vehicles where the subject block heater was approved for installation, the dealer will replace the block heater assembly with a new one of an improved design. For vehicles where the subject block heater was not approved for installation, dealers will remove the block heater assembly. In the interim, until the remedy can be performed, dealers will cut the plug end from the block heater cord to disable the block heater's operation.

Certain vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 126 - Electronic Stability Control Systems. Some brake actuator pumps may have been assembled with an O-ring that is damaged in such a way that the brake fluid pressure may not be properly controlled during Anti-Lock Braking (ABS), Traction Control (TRAC), and Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) system activation(s), which fails to meet the requirements of the standard. This could result in a loss of vehicle stability control, which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. On certain vehicles, the driver’s knee airbag inflator may have been assembled with an improperly located weld seam. If this condition is present, the weld could be insufficient or be damaged during the clinching process after the inflator was filled with gas, which could cause the stored gas to leak. Leakage of the stored gas could affect the performance of the knee airbag. Failure of the airbag to fully deploy during a crash (where deployment is warranted) could increase the risk of personal injury to the seat occupant. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the knee airbag assembly.
